Death of a Salesman

The show is based off of Arthur Miller's 1949 play Death of A Salesman. This play follows the last few days of Willy Loman and his family. Willy is a traveling salesman who is struggles to handle the pressure of work and family issues. Sales have become increasingly more difficult for Willy because it forces him to drive very long distances at his very old age. Willy and his son Biff use to be very close but have grown bitter towards each other  after a traumatic experience. Throughout the play, Willy constantly harps on the baseless success of his brother Ben, who found diamonds. The play won several awards and is well worth the read.

The Antidote

The Antidote is a book written by Oliver Burkeman and is about finding happiness in an unconventional way. Contrary to many other self-help books, The Antidote says that the only way to find happiness is to embrace the negatives and to accept the fact the certain things are unchangeable. The negative pathway way stresses the concept of embracing negative feelings and thoughts. The Antidote also talks about the philosophy of the stoics. The stoics believe, in short, that nothing can be viewed as negative and there is a positive to every situation. Burkeman analyzes these concepts in great detail and you will have a better understanding of them from reading the book. These mindsets can be seen through the psychologist in the TV show during Willy's visits.

Positive Education

Positive Education is an article within the Oxford Review of Education written primarily by Martin E. P. Seligman. It takes a look at something called "positive education", which is a type of education that involves teaching well-being by recognizing skills of achievement. This article references numerous studies which show a direct correlation between teaching "positive education" and increased happiness in students. This teaching is used by the psychologist Olivia in the TV show as another tool to try to make Willy happy.
